Olivia Del Rio

Olivia Del Rio was born on 16 April 1969 in Rio Casca, and grew up in Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais. It was one of the poorest areas in the North-East of the country. She came from an extremely religious and large family. Olivia was the 12th of 16 children and her father, who worked as a carpenter, was unable to support them all. When Olivia found out she had breast cancer, she decided to leave for Paris in order to seek medical assistance. She arrived in France on 21 April 1994 with one suitcase in her hand and just enough money for the medical bills. She spent time in Denmark and Germany, and although the treatment proved to be a success, decided to remain in France instead of returning to Brazil. She began working as a hairdresser, but realized that her exotic features and beautiful body could earn her a lot of money in Europe. "I decided to enter porn because I needed the money, not for the pleasure. My cancer treatment was very expensive. Once I was cured I decided to remain in Paris and make porn films."

It all started in 1994 in Paris. While modelling she also supported herself working as a maid. "I was a maid for a famous French adult director… I worked there for several months, then one day, that guy, Patrice Cabanel, asked me if I would like to do a sex scene for him! Just like that! Since I had seen several at his house and it looked like fun and was paid way better than my maid salary, I accepted. That was the beginning of my career, but at that time I didn't know it! The public loved her and directors found her extremely easy to work with. French director John B. Root recalled working with her in 1996. "I wrote a film that I thought was superb: Adriane. The history of a Brazilian call-girl… she was to be exotic, cheerful, intelligent, a feminist… I spent lots of evenings with Olivia Del Rio, for whom I wrote the role of Adriane. She was wonderful. I was falling in love with her!"

Olivia had one of the most beautiful figures and faces in the European industry, which, coupled with her dark South American looks and insatiable appetite for sex resulted in explosive on-screen performances. Although Olivia originally claimed that she only made films for the money, and viewed the entire affair solely as a job, it soon became evident that she was very comfortable with her work. Root later recalled making 'Sextet' with her in 1996: "Roberto [Malone] and Olivia were doing an anal sex scene that will forever remain in my memory as one of the most physical and the most fun that I have ever filmed. In 1997 she won the award for 'Best European Actress' at Cannes Hot D'Or for her role in the VMD production 'La Ruee Vers Laure' (1996), and the award for 'Best Co-Starring European Actress' at Barcelona the same year.

Like many of her contemporaries Olivia moved to the US and appeared in such films as John Leslie's 'The Voyeur 7' (1997). Working in the States opened Olivia up to new forms of sex. "At the beginning of my career I didn't like having sex with other girls! I was a man's girl!
